Standards
IEEE’s work drives the functionality and interoperability of technology that transforms how we live.
IEEE is a leading developer of global standards that support essential technologies—from telecommunications and power generation to AI ethics. Our portfolio of over 2,360 active standards and projects includes the IEEE 802.11™ standards on which Wi-Fi is based. Together with the IEEE Standards Association (SA), IEEE fosters global collaboration and consensus building to create standards that inform policy, drive innovation, and help improve the world.
IEEE Standards Drive Technology Forward
IEEE SA’s focus in India is to establish IEEE SA as the leading organization for pre-standardization and standards development activities. As IEEE SA is an independent global Standards Development Organization (SDO), the standards developed are based on consensus and requirements gathered through the stakeholders participating in the working groups.

FAST-TRACK
Collaborate to Innovate
The IEEE Standards Association Industry Connections (IC) program helps incubate new standards and related products and services by facilitating collaboration among organizations and individuals as they hone and refine their thinking on rapidly changing technologies.
IEEE SA Industry Connection (IC) Program
Industry Connections empowers groups with a customizable menu of IEEE and IEEE SA resources to produce “fast-track” content and deliverables such as proposals for standards, white papers, databases and registration services, peer review guides, and position papers. Industry Connections activities do not develop standards. To start a new program, the Industry Connection Activity Initiation Document (ICAID) needs to be submitted to IEEE SA.
IC Programs Driven from India
Focus on standards, technical activities, membership development, Education, philanthropy initiatives, business development, and support for digital library customers.
IEEE GEPS
IEEE Government Engagement Program on Standards
Through the IEEE Government Engagement Program on Standards (GEPS), government bodies can engage with standards development and ensure their priorities are considered. They also gain access to expert knowledge on global technology trends that can impact policy and regulation.

IEEE Standards in India
The IEEE Standards Association (IEEE SA) is a globally recognized standards-setting body within IEEE. It develops consensus standards through an open process that engages industry and brings together a broad stakeholder community. IEEE standards set specifications and best practices based on current scientific and technological knowledge. The IEEE SA has a portfolio of over 1,300 active standards and more than 500 standards under development.
The process for proposing a new standard is well established and can be initiated by any individual or entity without prior affiliation with IEEE.
IEEE SA Industry Connections

Engagement with Standards bodies in India, Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS)
IEEE SA has a general cooperation and standards adoption agreement with the Bureau of India Standards (BIS), allowing BIS to designate, adopt, and translate IEEE standards as Indian national standards. The IEEE standards adopted by BIS will have a dual number, original IEEE standard number with the year of publication and number allotted by BIS with the year of publication.
